This update was originally printed in the match day programme for Halifax Town on 21.02.2026.
Good afternoon and welcome to today’s fixture, a Yorkshire ‘Derby’ against our old rivals Halifax Town. Fourteen matches to go in what promises to be a roller coaster of a ride. Could we ever have expected club records to have kept tumbling with such regularity? Long may it continue please!
We’d like to thank those City supporters who have recently joined the Trust in response to our Project 2000 campaign, our attempt to pretty much double membership ahead of our 25th anniversary in February 2027.
We’d also like to thank Life Members who took up our plea to ‘renew their vows’ on February 14th, a re-run of the initiative first aired in 2026 which raised £6k for the football club. Your support means a lot.
The reality however remains that a minimum of 85% of City supporters through the turnstiles today are not Trust members. Also sad to report that 70 supporters who paid for annual membership last year opted not to renew this year.
We really need feedback from supporters who have not yet been persuaded to join, or supporters who failed to renew. What is stopping you? Is it simply that supporters believe that with the new ownership structure it is unnecessary? Or there underlying issues? What would you like to see in the membership offer? We can assure you that the Trust Board is working hard on your behalf. But we do not have a monopoly on good ideas!
Please give us your feedback. You can either visit us at the YCST gazebo prior to each Saturday home fixture. Or send an email to the address at the foot of this column.
If you are a Trust member please help us by cajoling friends, family and fellow supporters into joining the Trust. And finally a plea to annual members, please tick the box for auto renewal. It really would save us a huge amount of time.
A call out from City supporter Robert Pinder from Barnsley who joined the Trust recently. Rob asks if there are fellow City fans from that area that would like to travel to matches together, be that car share or via the train. We posted on the City Supporters Facebook page which prompted a fan from Otley to suggest that he’d welcome doing the same from Otley. If interested please email the Trust and we will connect the dots. Or maybe publicise your interest on the Facebook page.
Supporters will hopefully be aware that we have been in discussions with LNER since July 2026 in an attempt to explore discounted travel for City supporters on matchdays. Frustratingly a contract has proved out of reach. What we have identified are publicly available group discounts for groups of 3 plus supporters travelling together with discounts from 20% for non rail card holders to circa 50% for rail card holders. It needs group booking, and it needs a lead booking supporter so needs a degree of planning. But there are significant savings to be made. Full details on our website.
There’s never been a better time to become a Trust member and to have a voice. Please help us achieve our goal of doubling Trust membership numbers ahead of our 25th anniversary. Let us demonstrate that we, the Supporters, are as fully invested in this project to see City back in the Football League as are our majority owners and their partners. Surely we can all agree that right now things both on the pitch and off the pitch are in fairly rude health!
Joining could not be simpler. Just visit the Trust website – www.ycst.org.uk – click on the membership tab and follow the instructions from there for either annual or lifetime membership.
