York City Supporters’ Trust (YCST) learned of Stuart Maynard’s dismissal from the Club’s own announcement on Sunday afternoon.

At that point neither of the Trust’s two representatives, Alastair Smith and James Daniels, had been consulted or informed of the decision. Both have since been contacted by Club co-chair Julie-Anne Uggla, who apologised for the oversight and promised a fuller explanation of the circumstances in due course.

We should be clear about the Trust’s position. Whilst we are a shareholder, all employment matters are strictly managed by the football club as required by law. There is no legal scope for the Trust Board to be consulted on, or to intervene in, confidential employment matters.

We do want to put on record our thanks to Stuart for the joy he brought us all in our momentous National League triumph.

Finally, feelings are running high and that is understandable. But tomorrow night is Paddy McLaughlin’s testimonial, a reward for years of loyal service to this club. We would ask everyone to get behind him and give him the evening he deserves.
