The Supporters’ Trust notes that the section 106 agreement has been signed and that planning permission for the proposed housing development at Bootham Crescent has been approved by City of York Council. Coincidentally, the planning decision was made 20 years to the day since the Supporters’ Trust was formed in February 2002.

Several Trust members have contacted us to clarify what the next steps are in the process. As indicated in the football club’s statement of 4th February, negotiations between the club and Persimmon Homes are now progressing. It was always the case that negotiations relating to the sale of the land would only be completed once planning permission had been secured.

In accordance with York City Football Club Ltd’s Articles of Association, the directors of the company (and its subsidiaries) must seek the Trust’s written consent to the sale of the property.  In February 2021, the Trust received assurances from the football club’s solicitors that consent will be sought in compliance with this requirement.

In September 2021, our legal team wrote to the club’s solicitors to provide further detail regarding the information the Trust requires to make an informed decision. This includes a copy of the draft sale agreement, a breakdown of the distribution of the sale proceeds and details of any club debt or similar obligations that may remain in existence following completion. We look forward to receiving the relevant information in the coming weeks and will update members on any significant developments.
