York City Supporters’ Trust and First York are pleased to announce the start of the dedicated Y22 shuttle bus service between Stonebow and the LNER Community Stadium on home match days for the rest of York City FC’s 22/23 season.
The service number Y22 was chosen to dedicate the service to the year 1922 when York City Football Club was founded.
Starting on 3rd December 2022 for the Wrexham game, the Y22 service will run from two hours before kick-off and after the game until the ground is clear, up to a maximum of 90 minutes after the full-time whistle. Buses will run at frequent intervals between Stonebow in the City Centre and the Monks Cross Park & Ride outside the LNER Community Stadium. The service will only be for football fans to free up capacity on the existing number 9 route for other users.
To use the service, fans will need to purchase specific tickets available from the First Bus app. Tickets for the Y22 service will cost:
- Adult return £3.50
- Child/Concessionary Return £2
- Adult single £2
- Child/Concessionary single £1
No other tickets will be valid on the service.
Jim Calverley from York City Supporters’ Trust said “It’s been fantastic to work closely with First York representing fans to create a dedicated service to get fans to and from games. The Y22 service will significantly improve the public transport options available on match days. Getting this service up and running has been a focus for me since YCST purchased 49% of the football club in the summer to improve the matchday experience for fans. Thank you to the efforts put in by First York to get this off the ground”
Paul Moses, Network & Schedules Manager for First York, said: “This shuttle service is a result of strong community collaboration and partnership. We’re delighted to bring our expertise from running similar travel operations for other sports clubs to support the ambition of the Trust to make it easy and cost-effective for supporters to get to the stadium. We’re looking forward to welcoming fans on to buses for the Wrexham game and every home match to the end of the season.”
YCST has introduced First York to the Commercial & Media team within York City Football Club, who will look to advertise the service to Home and Away fans, as well as strengthen their commercial ties.
