This update was originally printed in the match day programme for Swindon Town on 12.09.2026.

Good afternoon, and welcome to the LNER Community Stadium for today’s visit from Swindon Town.

The last time both sides met in the FA Cup was back in November 2018, when Swindon won 2–1.

Remembering David Longhurst

Earlier this week, on 8 September, we marked 36 years since the tragic death of David Longhurst.

On 8 September 1990, David collapsed and died while playing for York City against Lincoln City at Bootham Crescent. He was just 25 years old.

His passing remains a deeply poignant part of our club’s history, and we remember David, his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

A few words from the Trust

For those who don’t know me, my name’s Loraine and I’m the Trust’s Membership Officer. I joined the board last November and have been focused on growing our membership and developing our local business discount scheme – so if you run a business and fancy getting involved, I’d love to hear from you. You can contact me at loraine.noble@ycst.org.uk.

The scheme now has four brilliant local businesses offering discounts to Trust members:

Plonkers Wine Bar – the independent, family-owned wine bar and bistro on Cumberland Street, 10% off on match days.

Pureform Studio – a reformer Pilates studio in the city centre with free parking, £11 taster sessions plus 10% off classes.

SPARK York – independent community and creative venue on Piccadilly, 15% off drinks.

The Terrace – York’s home for live sports, food and match-day atmosphere on New Street, £3.50 selected bottles and pints before every home game.

Just show your digital membership card – no vouchers or codes. More businesses are joining, so keep an eye on ycst.org.uk/member-discounts for the latest offers.

Looking ahead to the AGM

With our AGM coming up this autumn, we’re looking ahead to the next stage for the Trust Board and will be looking for members who would like to stand for election.

If you’re interested in getting more involved, please come and speak to us at the gazebo before kick-off, outside the South Stand entrance.

We’re particularly keen to hear from members with social media and digital communications experience, as we’d like to strengthen our skills and reach more supporters.

We’re also looking for a new Trust Secretary, following Paul Sankey’s recent appointment as Vice Chair. You don’t need previous experience – being organised, reliable and committed to York City are the important things, and support and a proper handover will be provided.

So, if you’ve ever thought about getting more involved, come and have a chat with us at the gazebo before the game.

If you’re not a member yet, now’s a great time to join. Membership starts at just £10 a year and, as well as unlocking these discounts, you’ll be supporting the Trust’s work for the Club. Join at ycst.org.uk/join or come and find us on match day.

Keep the Faith!
