Good afternoon.
For those that don’t know me my name’s Paul Sankey and I was recently co-opted on to the Trust Board to act as Vice-Chair, following the departure of Jim Calverley.
I’ve been working on the board as Secretary for 3 years now so I know how the Trust works and will be available to help a new Secretary when we manage to find one. To be the Trust Secretary, you definitely do not need to have done a similar role before (I hadn’t), what matters more is that you are organised, reliable, discreet where you need to be, and care about York City. Full support and a proper handover will be provided. If you would like to know more, please get in touch at info@ycst.org.uk.
My first comment for these notes is actually a very sad one. We were all shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news about Quevin Castro last Saturday, who died after collapsing during a match in Portugal. Quevin did not feature too many times for York but those of us who were here in late 2022 when he scored that screamer of a free kick for Notts County will remember it for a very long time. Our thoughts go to all the staff, players and fans who knew him well and to all his friends and family at this sad time.
On to today’s match, an eagerly anticipated visit from Exeter City, or the Grecians as they are more properly known to us fans. You may not realise this but Exeter are actually owned by their Supporters Trust, who have a majority shareholding and over 5,500 members. Just visit their website at https://weownexetercityfc.co.uk/ to see some of the excellent work their Trust has done and continues to do. Some great fundraising ideas for our own Trust board to think about!
We are delighted to announce the next recipient of a £500 donation from our charitable fund is the York Rescue Boat. This is an independent search and rescue charity based in York, which was established in 2014 following a tragic series of river-related deaths in the city. The team conduct regular foot and boat patrols during high-risk periods, every weekend, all year round and is manned entirely by volunteers, relying entirely on public support to continue their vital work. Visit https://www.yorkrescueboat.org.uk/ to learn more about them and donate if you wish.
One really good reason to join is our recently-announced discount schemes. So far these are being offered to Trust members by Plonkers, The Terrace and Spark:York, with more to follow very soon. See https://www.ycst.org.uk/member-discounts/ for full details. Trust membership starts at £10 a year (or £100 for life membership) and you can join at ycst.org.uk/join, or come and find one of us on match-day.
So that’s it from me for now. Enjoy the match and Keep The Faith!
