Good evening, and welcome to the LNER Community Stadium.

There is something about a Tuesday night, isn’t there?

The walk up with the light already gone. The floodlights visible long before the ground is. The breath in the air, the smell of the food stands, the pitch looking greener than it has any right to under those lights. Football on a Saturday afternoon is wonderful, but football on a Tuesday night feels special.

Tonight is the first proper one of the season (sorry Jersey Mike’s) – a League Two match, points on the line, Accrington Stanley in town under the lights. It is a long time since we could say that, and I don’t intend to take it for granted.

So a warm welcome to everyone from Accrington who has made the trip across the Pennines on a school night. And if you have brought someone along tonight for their first taste of midweek football, thank you – this is exactly the sort of evening that turns a visitor into a regular.

Now, something from the Trust.

Our AGM is next month, and we need you

The Trust’s Annual General Meeting is on Thursday the 26th of November at 7.30pm, at Bishopthorpe Sports & Social Club – and if you can’t make it in person, you can join remotely and still vote. There are seven seats on the board up for grabs.

If you have ever thought about standing, this is the moment. You do not need to be an expert in company law or finance. What the Board needs most are people who care about York City, who will turn up, and who will bring a supporter’s perspective into the room. The people you elect decide how the Trust uses its voice at the Club.

Any Trust member can stand. All it takes is the nomination form, signed by two fellow members. Nominations close on Monday the 2nd of November. Questions? Contact Paul Sankey at secretary@ycst.org.uk.

If standing for the Board isn’t for you, there is another way to make a real difference. We are looking for a new Trust Secretary. With Paul now Vice Chair, we need someone to take it on. It means organising and minuting Board meetings, convening the AGM, and keeping the Trust running properly under its Rules. No experience needed – Paul will provide a full handover. What matters is that you are organised, reliable and care about the club.

Interested, or fancy an informal chat? Email info@ycst.org.uk.

And of course, only members can vote at the AGM or stand for election. If you aren’t a member yet, there has never been a better time. Membership starts at £10 a year, and we are aiming for 2,000 members by our 25th anniversary in February. Join at ycst.org.uk/join, or come and find one of us on match-day.

Enjoy the match – and enjoy the lights.

Keep The Faith.
