Yesterday YCFC announced that West Stand season ticket holders would be moved to other seats for our Good Friday game against Chesterfield so away fans could have the whole of the West Stand. Like all City fans we were disappointed by the news and lack of transparency in the decision-making process.
As promised, we’ve since been in communication with the club and now have a fuller picture of the forces at play and the influence other parties have on decisions such as this. Unfortunately, the club does not own the stadium. It must work with the owners and operators of the stadium, and comply with their guidelines. This includes having to rely on the SMC to safely restrict tickets for away supporters to specific areas of the ground.
We know the current arrangements don’t work for City fans, the club knows they don’t work for City fans, but in the short-term our ability to change these arrangements is limited. We will continue to work with the club to improve the experience at the Community Stadium, and we will continue to represent our members and voice their concerns.
We have been told that the SMC will contact season ticket holders to facilitate their relocation, this means affected season ticket holders will no longer need to attend the stadium to make arrangements.
We are still angry at this decision and call on those responsible to reverse their decision. However, as City fans we should not punish the team for the restrictions placed upon the club. Let’s fill every single seat available to us and ensure that we drown out any noise from the west stand. Every game matters. We are York.
