The York City Supporters Trust, representing the passionate supporters of York City, has issued an open letter expressing concern over the recent decision by the National League to move the Boreham Wood vs York City match from the 6th to the 7th of January to accommodate TNT Sports broadcasting.

In the letter addressed to the CEO of the National League and TNT Sports, the Trust highlights the strain imposed on fans who have already booked travel and accommodation for the original fixture date. The abrupt change, three weeks ahead, during the festive season, has led to unforeseen pressures for supporters facing the challenges of the festive period.

The Trust emphasises the vital role fans play in football, urging for understanding and cooperation to address this issue. In their appeal, they request support in the form of free transport and reimbursement for affected fans.

The York City Supporters Trust remains committed to finding a fair and equitable solution that considers both the interests of the supporters and the necessities of the sport.

The Chair of the Football Supporters Association Malcom Clarke has backed our letter,

“The Football Supporters Association fully supports the concerns of the York City Supporters about the late change of date for this fixture. Away fans add greatly to both the atmosphere at games, which benefits the TV product, and the gate income, and their interests should be much higher on the agenda of both the leagues and the TV Companies.

Many away fans purchase advance rail tickets which are non-refundable and lose that money when the fixture is changed at late notice. We have been campaigning for the rail companies to show some flexibility in these circumstances. It is a particular problem for many at this time of year because of the costs of christmas.

York to Boreham Wood and back on a Sunday is a difficult ask anyway for fans, even without this additional cost. We support the call for the National League, TNT and the rail Companies to do something practical to mitigate the effects of this late decision on the travelling York City support”
