This guide explains why businesses are getting involved, and how simple the scheme is to run day to day.
It’s free
No joining fee, no commission, no monthly cost. You set the offer and you can change or withdraw it whenever you like.
A loyal local audience
Trust members are York people who choose to put their money behind their club. They notice the businesses that back them.
Real promotion
Your own listing on our website, plus a launch announcement and scheduled social media posts keeping your offer in front of members.
Easy to run
No app, no card reader, no account. Your staff simply look at the member's phone — it takes about a minute to learn.
What You’ll Get
- Your own page on ycst.org.uk — a full listing with your details, your offer and a link to your website, alongside the other participating businesses.
- Promotion to our members — we announce every new business joining the scheme across our social media channels and in our member communications.
- Scheduled social media posts — we don’t just announce you once and forget you. We schedule ongoing posts about participating businesses, keeping your offer in front of supporters through the season.
- A place in the York City community — the Trust is a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society. Supporting us supports the club and the city.
What We Ask of You
Simply this: offer Trust members a discount or benefit of your choosing. It’s entirely up to you what that looks like — a percentage off, a free side, a matchday-only deal. Our first participating business, Plonkers Wine Bar, offers members 10% off on matchdays.
You just need someone on your team to know how to check a membership card. That takes about a minute to learn — the How it works tab above shows you exactly what to look for.

What to Check
- Membership type — the large red band reads Annual Member or Life Member. Both are valid.
- The member’s name — shown beneath the band. Cards are personal and non-transferable.
- The expiry date — shown to the right of the name. Life members will show a far-future date.
- The Trust logo — the York City Supporters Trust crest sits at the top of every card.
Want to Be Certain?
Every card carries a QR code. If you ever want to double-check, point your phone's camera at it and tap the link that appears — a page on our website will confirm the member's name and whether their membership is current.
Common Questions
Does it cost anything to take part?
No. Joining the scheme is completely free. There is no fee, no commission on sales, and no contract.
Do I have to offer a specific discount?
Not at all. The offer is yours to set, and you can make it as generous or as modest as suits your business. You’re also free to limit it — to matchdays only, for example, or to exclude certain items.
Do I need any equipment or software?
No. Checking a card means looking at a member’s phone screen. If you choose to scan the QR code, your own phone’s camera is all that’s needed.
What if someone shows an expired card?
Politely decline the discount and suggest they contact us at membership@ycst.org.uk. Cards update automatically on renewal, so an expired card usually means a lapsed membership.
Can members share a card between them?
No. Each card is unique to one member and carries their name. If the name on the card doesn’t match the person in front of you, the discount doesn’t apply.
Can I change or withdraw my offer later?
Yes, at any time. Just email us and we’ll update your listing, or remove it if you’d rather step away. We’d only ask that you let us know so members aren’t disappointed.
How many members are there?
The Trust has over 1,200 members, and we’re growing — our Project 2000 campaign aims to reach 2,000 members by February 2027, the Trust’s 25th anniversary.
