Having derived through a simple adaption of the sport, Walking Football has risen in popularity in the UK and York City Football Club Foundation now spearheads this new social sport’s prominence in York. Over time they have built up an extremely healthy rapport with regular attendees, something that continues to flourish whilst the sessions take place.
Catering to a vast range of demographics, Walking Football offers participation opportunities for those that may have previously felt unable to cope with the physical demand of the beautiful game.

This project is supported by The National League Trust.

The National League Trust is a partnership between the National League, the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association. The Premier League and the PFA have committed to support the Trust until 2019. They will each contribute to a donation of £1.2m a year over this period. This allows the Trust to help National League member clubs develop their community programs. YCFC Foundation has been able to directly link the football club with the community by providing the walking footballers with free match day tickets, alongside other initiatives.

These sessions picked up the Active in York Award at the 2017 Active York Sports Awards, for its continued endeavor and hard work in offering organised, regular participation and socialisation opportunities for so many people in and around York.
