York City’s Head of Press & Public Relations reported the following on the YCFC website on October 5th 2017
“The Trust, which owns a 25 per cent stake in the club, has regrettably chosen to seriously question the financial management of the club – just days after the appointment of new manager Martin Gray and sporting director Dave Penney”
On behalf of the Board of the York City Supporters Trust, I want to make it clear to all Trust members, to Jason McGill, the Club Administration and to all supporters of York City that I support the decisions Jason has made in appointing a new Team Manager and Sporting Director. My recent comments reported in The Press, made during an interview on BBC Radio York and also published in “The Citizen” expressed The Trust’s warm and enthusiastic welcome to Martin Gray and Dave Penney.
I appreciate that the decision the Chairman had to make in terminating the contracts of Gary Mills and Darren Caskey was a difficult but decisive one for the future of York City, and I agree with it. I and the Trust Board are all “true supporters”, and we are delighted that Martin and Dave have got off to such a positive start. We wish them well and we assure them of our full backing.
I regret the implication in the club’s statement that my choice “to seriously question the financial management of the club” was in some way intended to oppose the club’s decision, or to undermine Martin, Dave and the players. Nothing could have been further from my intention.
